Sport Report

St Bernard’s school students are currently having lots of fun learning all the skills involved with Gymnastics – thanks to the Kojonup Bus Service and Sporting Schools sponsorship. For the first six weeks of this term, students will be taught by gymnastics instructor Serena Sandwell. Serena has been guiding our children through all the apparatus at the gymnastics club and increasing their skills on the bars, beams, horse, rings and, of course, the floor. Their inner core strength is on the increase just from their warm-ups!

The Kojonup Bus Service has kindly donated the bus and our Physical Education specialist teacher, Mrs Peta Marinoni, is driving the students back and forth from the club each Friday. A Sporting Schools grant is covering the cost of tuition and without both of these wonderful sponsorships, experiences like this would not be possible for our students.

On the Thursday of the last week of Term One, students from Years 4-6 participated in a cricket tournament in Katanning. They played numerous other schools and along the way improved their cricket skills. It was a great way for the students to increase their skills without knowing this is what they were doing! The music was pumping as the students played, so not only did their cricket skills increase but their dancing skills did too! Thanks to Tracey Cant, Peter Robertson, Margie Davies and Sandra Gianoli for helping on the day.

A reminder that this term we have our Cross-Country event at the Golf Course on Friday 14th June. Keep this day free to come and watch your child run. We are also hosting the Interschool Cross Country on Tuesday 2nd July. Helpers are needed for this day, so please pencil this in your diary. A note will be sent to parents closer to the date.

Kindy/ Pre-primary/Yr1/2 Liturgy

On Thursday the Kindy, Pre-Primary, Year One and Two students took part in their Term 2 Liturgy. The theme of this term’s Liturgy was loving by working for ourselves, others and creation. The students took part in their Liturgy with great enthusiasm, joining in with the songs and dance. Well done to all those who had a reading to deliver.

It was lovely to see so many family members attend the Liturgy and stay for the shared morning tea. Thank you to the Year One/Two parents for supplying the morning tea, Mrs Guidi for planning the Liturgy and all the teachers for their support of the students.

Yr 5/6 Camp Report

Last week saw the Year 5/6 class travel to Woodman Point for their annual school camp. There were lots of last-minute hugs before students were waved goodbye by parents. Our journey up to Perth was broken by a morning tea break at the new Williams playground which got the tick of approval from all the students.

After we were settled in at camp it was off the Fremantle Prison for a tour. The children had lots of questions for the very knowledgeable tour guide and were amazed at the primitive conditions that prisoners endured. Xavier did us proud with his performance of being punished with the cat’o nine tails!

The next day was filled with activities. Students participated in Archery, Search and Rescue, Rafting and Rock Climbing. It was great to see everyone working as a team and to challenge themselves to try new and sometimes scary things.

Friday saw everyone pitch in to clean and pack up before a quick tour of the Roundhouse in Fremantle. We are grateful to Mr Robertson and Mrs Mackean for their help while on camp and Mrs Leusciatti and helpers for their help with catering.
